COMMUNITY BASED EDUCATION

The mission of East Central Area Health Education Center is to assist in preparing a vibrant health care workforce by facilitating fulfilling educational experiences through community-based learning opportunities and clinical placements within the rural and underserved communities of east central Alabama.

Community-based training delivers clinical experiences in a real world setting. Students, supervised by community based faculty, interact one-on-one with actual patient populations in community health centers, county health departments, local practitioners’ offices and other community primary care sites. Current research has shown that health care professions students who have participated in these experiences have a better understanding of the complex needs of underserved communities.

Community Based Student Education is arranged by our CBSE Coordinator in accordance with the requirements of individual college and training programs throughout the state of Alabama.

We offer health care professionals the opportunity to precept health care professions students in clinical rotations. Students learn vital professional skills while the preceptor benefits from the goodwill generated by helping to educate the next generation of health care workers in the state of Alabama.
